Checker brick is a kind of heat-carrying accumulator with strong heat exchange capacity, large heat storage area, smooth ventilation, low resistance of air and many other superior thermal characteristics, which is widely recognized and accepted by the world iron industry at present. Checker brick is a kind of heat transfer medium, which is used in the regenerative chamber of the hot blast furnace. the checker bricks with a certain structure are laid in an orderly manner and the upper and lower holes of the checker bricks can allow gas to pass through.The function of the hot blast furnace is to heat the cold air sent by the blower into hot air, which is then sent to the blast furnace through the hot air pipe for combustion reaction.The burning period and air supply period of hot blast furnace work in turns. In the burning period, the flue gas after burning passes through the hole of the checker brick in the hot blast furnace and transfers the heat to the checker brick to play the role of heat storage.During the period of air supply, the cold air from the blower enters the hot blast furnace and is heated into hot air by the checker brick through convection heat exchange and radiation heat exchange, and then be sent to blast furnace.
The checker brick has the characteristics of good volume stability, good high temperature creep under load, high density and low porosity.
According to the technical requirement of different temperature area, it is normally choose silicon checker brick and fireclay checker brick. And it also choose alumina checker brick, mullite checker brick and sillimanite checker brick in a few hot blast furnace.
The technological development trend of iron industry in the world today is to reduce consumption and improve production efficiency further. It is an important measure to improve the air temperature of hot blast furnace. With the development of top firing hot blast furnace, the maximum air temperature of blast furnace has reached 1350 degrees. the heating area of checker brick is increased by using 20 mm aperture checker brick. That reduced the consumption of checker brick and the refractory of hot blast furnace, and then reduce the investment of hot blast furnace.
